About Me & the Information I Consume

About Me

Hi, I'm Macie. I was born in Eureka, California and moved to Oregon when I was two years old. I feel a bit weird saying that I'm from California because I don't even remember living there, but I still have a ton of family there that I visit so California is still a special place for me. I will say, I definitely prefer Oregon over California. Any time I bring up going down there to visit family, people hear California and automatically assume LA, sunshine, beaches. Eureka is way up north near the coast, but not the sunny coast. I'd say it's pretty much the "Oregon Coast" of California.

Anyways, enough about California. I am in my second year at LBCC as a psychology major. My goal is to become a child and family therapist or counselor because I enjoy helping others and I feel that it is important for children and families to receive help if they're struggling with their mental health. LBCC was just a good option for because after high school I still wasn't 100% sure about the career or major I wanted to pursue.

Outside of family and school, I am passionate about dance. I danced competitively for 6 years, but I have not danced in two years and I still love it and appreciate the art form very much.

Information I Consume

My three main sources of information/media sources are Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. These are my go-to sources because I can quickly access information and keep up with information of my choosing. For example, TikTok has pretty much become Google for me. If I have a question about something going on in the world, I can most likely find it on a popular News or media company that has an official/verified account. I wouldn't particularly cite these platforms within an academic essay or paper by any means. However, I think they are decently reliable sources if you look at the information you're receiving carefully.

Given what I know about "fake news," "deep fakes" and misinformation, I am quite concerned about the information out in the media ecosystem due to the fact that all of those sorts of things are constantly growing and developing to convince people of them, especially older generations. To ensure the information that I take in is accurate before passing it on is by paying attention to the source of the information and where it is being published online.
